Hi, Everybody -

It's time for another archetype video, and I decided to do the judge this week because we are amid a legal season.

Now, when we think about the judge archetype, and I mean the archetype, what comes to mind within the Western world is the iconic story of Solomon - because that story represents the pinnacle of the judge and the capacity to separate from the two people involved in an issue and ascend to a level of wisdom.

Judgment is the capacity to see clearly and recognize we'll never know all the details; we'll never know all the facts. We can only work with what's in front of us to the best of our ability. We can disassociate from details that are not significant and use a higher order of discernment in making a decision.

Any archetypal pattern is a completely impersonal pattern. But we all have an active element of the judge in us and battle judge mentalism. And we all have to make judgments. So I offer you the teaching of judgment and discernment as a way of realizing you have the choice not to fall prey to being a victim or to be caught in the duality of I've got to win or lose. There could be a third way or other options. Maybe, there's the way of Solomon.

Caroline Myss - The Judge (The Power of Archetypes)

Hi, Everybody -

It's time for another archetype. This week, I'm combining two that relate to each other. We're going to start with the storyteller and then go to the gossip, which is like the shadow side of the storyteller.

But I want to begin with a fantastic quote from Eleanor Roosevelt, who said, "Great minds discuss ideas, average minds discuss events and small minds discuss people." And that summarizes the difference between a great storyteller and a gossip and the width of the spectrum between them.

The great power of a storyteller is to take what you've gone through and use it as a launching pad into the theater of life itself. To understand the stories of others is the spiritual purpose of the storyteller.  

For the gossip archetype, human information is social currency; It's their key to getting into social circles, being popular, and having something to say.  

If you tend to gossip, break that pattern. The choice for all of us, no matter the archetype, is whether we are gracing something or withholding grace.

Okay, so the storyteller and the gossip, what a team.

Caroline Myss - The Storyteller and the Gossip (The Power of Archetypes)

Hi, Everybody -

It's time for this week's archetype, and I'm doing the hedonist. This is a fascinating archetype because it gets such bad press. People think of the hedonist as someone who only seeks pleasure and will do anything to indulge in a good time and avoid any responsibility. But the hedonist gets a lot of bad press, and I wanted to discuss that.

As I was doing the hedonist, I realized that the last thing people associate the divine with is pleasure, answering prayers for assistance to show you the beautiful side of life, the lightness of creation.

The hedonist represents the love of the good life and what we are willing to do to get to the good life. If you look historically, though, it's that part of life that causes people to lose control. Too much of the hedonist causes people to lose contact with their senses. And so that part had to be regulated.

I hope you think about this because Western society, especially its puritanical roots, struggles with balancing pleasure with everyday life. I encourage you to indulge your hedonist; that's where I'm going with this. Indulge the things that you enjoy in your life. It should be as ordinary as everything else.
