1 who is situated in devotional service is certainly the controller of his senses, And thus he is a liberated person.

When such a liberated person, the pure devotee, hears of the transcendental qualities and activities of the Lord's incarnations, for the performance of various pastimes, his hair stands on end on his body, tears fall from his eyes, and in his spiritualization his voice falters.

Sometimes he very openly dances, sometimes he sings loudly, and sometimes he cries.

As he expresses his transcendental jubilation.

For example, when he appeared as Lord Ramachandra, he performed uncommon activities like bridging the ocean similarly when Lord Krishna appeared He raised the Govardhan Hill when He was only 7 years of age.

Fools and rascals who are not in the transcendental position consider these uncommon activities of the Lord to be mythological, but when the pure devotee, the liberated person, hears about these uncommon activities of the Lord, he immediately becomes ecstatic and exhibits the symptoms of chanting, dancing, and crying very loudly and jubilantly.

This is the difference between a devotee and non-devotee.

Translation, 1 who is situated in devotional service is certainly the controller of his senses, and thus he is a liberated person.

When such a liberated person, the pure devote, he hears of the transcendental qualities and activities of the Lord's incarnations for the performance of various pastimes.

His hair stands on the end of his body, tears fall from his eyes, and in his spiritual realization his voice falters.

Thus he expresses his transcendental jubilation.

Jaya Shri Krishna Jaya Tanya, Jaya Shri Krishna Chaitanya, Prabhu, Nityananda, Shri Advaita, Harayas, Shri Vasari, Govabhakti, Vrindavan, Hare Krishna, Hare Krishna, Krishna, Krishna, Hare Hare, Hare Rama, Hare Rama, Rama, Hare Hare.

So in the previous verse Prahlada, actually Prabhupada mentions in the purport that as 1 advances in Krishna consciousness, he gradually comes to the stage of perfection where he manifests the ecstatic symptoms of love of God.

Some of the symptoms of an ecstatic lover of God are stated in this verse.

Just like we were on Harinam yesterday and when the accordion was given over to Sri Pallad and he started singing, then my hair stood

as Satchinandan Swami would say, my dear devotees, please don't think that this is because I am experiencing some deeper sentiments of love of God, but it's like you could say shadow.

But it gave me some hope that 1 day when I hear the holy names of the Lord, chances that my hairs will stand on end in true ecstasy.

And that a devotee on this level of pure devotion the tears fall from his eyes and in his spiritual realization his voice sometimes falters.

He dances without consideration of what the public may think or not think.

He sings very loudly and again sometimes he cries.

So actually these symptoms of love of God, they're not the goal for the devotees, not that the devotees are practicing Krishna consciousness in order to experience ecstasy.

No the devotee's goal of devotional service is to please the transcendental senses of Krishna.

A lover of God, his first and foremost consideration is

And these ecstatic symptoms of love of God, are they the side effect of that?

When Krishna is pleased, when the Lord is happy, then the devotee feels ecstasy, Oh my Lord is happy and he manifests these symptoms of love of God.

Again, Anibhila sitasunyam jnana karma navitam anukalina krishnanu shilanam bhaktir uttama, that pure devotional service is performed for the pleasure of Kṛṣṇa.

It's not that we're performing devotional service so that we can be ecstatic.

Ecstasy is a result of favorable service performed to the Lord.

Takes a long time to come to that stage of pure devotion.

This Anubhava means the symptoms of love of God.

If we study Bhakti Rasamrita Sindhu, we'll hear this word bhava very often.

Staye bhava means the particular relationship a devotee has with Krishna.

As an an admirer, as an admirer, appreciates God, as a servant, as a friend, parental figure, or lover like the gopis.

And then bhava means the specific mood of that relationship and

Anubhava is the symptoms that manifest as a result of that love.

Of course it's a gradual process to get to that stage.

Krishna consciousness is divided into 3 main categories of advancement.

Rupakaswami says in the Bhakti Rasamita Sindhu, śrī-bhakti śhadanam bhava prema ceti tridau dhita that devotion is said to be of 3 kinds.

Devotional service and practice, sadhana, and then the feeling of bhava and finally the last stage love or prema so right now we're initially in the stage of sadhana which means we're cultivating a relationship with Krishna we're practicing to be devotees.

And as we say in English, practice makes perfect.

Vaidhi bhakti means that we are following the rules and the regulations.

And when that becomes something natural, something spontaneous, then it's called bhavar or raganuga bhakti.

And when that natural state becomes perfect, it's called prema.

someone takes up music, for example, and in the beginning they're learning all the chords it's kind of like hard A that's an A and then that's a C and that's a C minor C sharp C minor, C sharp.

And then after a while, after months or several years, you don't even have to think about it, you just, the C comes, the F, the minor, it just comes so easy.

So we're doing the rules and we're doing the regulations.

We're doing the things that are favorable and avoiding the things which are unfavorable.

He said that this is right and good, that's why we do it.

We do what is good for us and reject what is not good for us.

I think technically it said that by just doing the rules and regulations of devotional service, Vaidhi Bhakti, 1 attains Vaikuntha.

Rupa Goswami says in in Nectar of Devotion that through Vaidhi-Bhakti 1 will attain the form of an associate of Krishna in Vaikuntha.

So what hope is there for us who are just practitioners doing all the rules and regulations?

But because we are doing that Vaidhi, those rules and regulations in relationship to Krishna, to achieve pure devotional service to Krishna, we can achieve Galoka Vrindavan in due course of time.

Because in performing all those rules and regulations we are always keeping our mind on Krishna.

Everything we do is in relationship to Krishna.

All those beginning rules and regulations help us focus our mind on Krishna.

So therefore the Acharyas say that in our practice of Vaidhi Bhakti there's also the element of Raghunuga, there's also some emotion for

Like although a little child is just a little child, in the very beginning there's some attachment to the mother.

You can't say that it's like the same feeling that a child has for his mother when he's 16 or 17 or 18.

So although it's Vaidhi Bhakti, it's sadhana, it's just rules and regulations all broken down, different times of the day we do this, but because it's in relationship to Krishna, 1 eventually imbibes that mood of devotion which comes as a result of associating with Krishna.

That phrase, you know, love at first sight, It's very misleading.

It may be lust at first sight, that's okay.

Overwhelmed by lust, you become attracted to someone's physical features with a desire to enjoy that person's body.

But love, genuine love is something much more refined.

It takes more effort to achieve genuine love for someone.

When you first meet, then there's some little relationship there, then you begin to associate, and over due course of time you get to know the person, you appreciate them for what they are as a devotee, and then some genuine attachment comes, which after some time turns into love.

So if we see that someone comes to Krishna Consciousness and then all of a sudden they are manifesting ecstatic symptoms of love of Godhead, we can generally assume that this is something pretentious.

Although there may be a rare case where someone is very advanced.

It takes perhaps many years or lifetimes to develop pure love for Krishna.

I heard 1 definition that in 1 lifetime you're a sadhaka, next lifetime you may be practicing Raganuga and the next life, Prema Bhakti, if we're lucky.

But at least we know these things are there and we can fix our mind.

And hope for these ecstatic, hope for love of God which these ecstatic symptoms are coming.

By always hearing about these higher principles of Krishna consciousness, we can adjust ourselves on the path of devotion.

Just like a sailor at sea, or at least in the old days, they had the North Star, Polar Star.

It's where Druva resides actually, Druvalok, the star in the sky.

All the constellations are constantly moving, but they're moving around the pole star.

So the sailors, they had their particular instruments and they would fix on the pole star.

And by seeing where the pole star is, they could understand their position at sea.

So by hearing of these advanced stages of Krishna consciousness, we know what the goal is and we can adjust ourselves, We can see where we are at in Krishna consciousness at the moment and what we have to do to gradually achieve that goal.

And because Prahlad Maharaj is addressing neophytes, he's addressing his little demoniac friends, he gives us a very clear understanding of where we are situated, because we're in a similar position.

He said, 1 who is situated in devotional service initially, he controls his senses.

Thus he is liberated from material life and if he is a pure devotee then when he hears these about Krishna then these symptoms manifest.

And Jiva Goswami has given the same advice, Vaca Vagam, Manasakoda Vagam, Jiva Vagam, Upastha Vagam, that devotional service begins by

Because right now our senses are simply interested in enjoying this material world.

And thus we become more and more entangled in fruitive activities and their resultant karma.

Like a fly, Like a spider constructs a complicated web and then when the fly flies into the spider web, then she tries to disentangle herself, but every step she takes with her 6 feet, she becomes increasingly more entangled.

So In the same way the more we try to enjoy this material world the more we become entangled, the more we become degraded and unable to practice spiritual life.

Prahlada Maharaj also says in the Seventh Canto of the Bhagavatam, That because of their uncontrolled senses, persons who are too addicted to materialistic life, make progress towards hellish conditions.

And they repeatedly, puṇa puṇaścarvita-carvanam, they repeatedly chew that which has been already chewed.

And as a result of this sense gratification, their inclinations towards serving Krishna never come about.

Either by their own efforts or the instructions of others.

So really by engaging in sense gratification you could say it's like spiritual suicide.

But the same sense is when you control them and engage them in devotional service to the source of your liberation.

As Narada said to Shri Laviya Asadeva, it's not the same thing which caused the disease when used in a therapeutic or medicinal way.

That if you drink milk in the hot season in India it causes diarrhea.

But the same milk when turned into yogurt, when you drink that yogurt, the dysentery is cured.

Because milk heats the body which causes the diarrhea and yogurt cools the body which stops the diarrhea.

using in a fruitless way to enjoy the material world, if you stop those senses, that's called liberation.

But if you go further and you use those senses in Krishna's service, that's called devotional service.

If you're smart enough just to stop sense gratification and you can hold on like that, then you're a liberated soul.

But if you can do better than that, if you can stop the senses and then use them in their natural way in the devotional service of Krishna, then you're a devotee, you're in a safer position than the liberated soul.

Because desirelessness is not the original nature of the soul.

So the liberated soul who is not a devotee eventually, Prabhupada said, because he's not fulfilling the deeper desires of the soul, he'll come back down and do material activity again.

But if you stop sense gratification and then you use your senses in the service of Krishna,

Therefore our slogan is a nice slogan which comes from Bhakti Rasamitra Sinde that everything we do should be done for Krishna's pleasure.

The Bhagavad Gita says, krishnarte yakhila cesta.

Everything we do should simply be done for

Although I don't like tattoos, but devotees sometimes have tattoos, so...

Krishna says it in another way in Bhagavad Gita,

Yad Kuroshi Yadashnoshi Yad Juhoshi Dadashi Yad Yad Tapasya Shikuntaya Tad Kurushva Mat arpanam.

O son of Kunti, all that you do, all that you eat, All that you offer and give away, as well as all austerities that you perform, should be done as an offering to me.

So actually this is the beginning, that we're just training ourselves to do all these things for Krishna, and by this vaidhi or this sadhana, by doing this a little hard, but then it becomes natural, and then eventually it becomes prema, it becomes love of God.

When you are doing these things wholly and solely for the pleasure of Radha and Krishna, then you'll see the hair stand on end and the eyes will cry tears of love, this and that.

That is a synopsis of the process from Radha to Prema in 16 minutes.

Speaker 0: Therefore our slogan is a nice slogan which comes from Bhakti Rasamitra Sinde that everything we do should be done for Krishna's pleasure. The Bhagavad Gita says, krishnarte yakhila cesta. That should be our motto. Krishnarte akila cesta. Everything we do should simply be done for

Speaker 1: Krishna's pleasure.

Speaker 0: This would make a nice tattoo. Although I don't like tattoos, but devotees sometimes have tattoos, so... Krishnarte akila cesta. What does that mean, Prabhu? Everything we do for Krishna.

Krishna says it in another way in Bhagavad Gita,

Speaker 1: but it's a long tattoo.

Speaker 0: Yad Kuroshi Yadashnoshi Yad Juhoshi Dadashi Yad Yad Tapasya Shikuntaya Tad Kurushva Mat arpanam. O son of Kunti, all that you do, all that you eat, All that you offer and give away, as well as all austerities that you perform, should be done as an offering to me. So actually this is the beginning, that we're just training ourselves to do all these things for Krishna, and by this vaidhi or this sadhana, by doing this a little hard, but then it becomes natural, and then eventually it becomes prema, it becomes love of God. When you are doing these things wholly and solely for the pleasure of Radha and Krishna, then you'll see the hair stand on end and the eyes will cry tears of love, this and that. That is a synopsis of the process from Radha to Prema in 16 minutes.
